Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), 8-weeks

Are you experiencing a stressful period after Huricane Harvey, and would you like to learn to navigate through stressful situations?

What is MBSR?

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction is an 8-week, evidence-based, stress reduction programme that combines mindfulness, meditation and mindful yoga.

The MBSR programme was founded in 1979 when Professor John Kabat-Zinn, the first to bring mindfulness to Western medicine, started the programme at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. He began to offer it to patients with chronic conditions. Since then, more than 22,000 patients have participated in such courses at the University of Massachusetts, and many more have participated in MBSR courses worldwide. Today MBSR courses are offered in hospitals, farms, schools, prisons and athletic centers, etc..

The Effect:

Much research regarding the MBSR program and its effects has been conducted at several universities around the world. The MBSR programme has been found to have a positive effect on stress, physical pain and well-being. Furthermore, a positive effect on several parts of the brain has been measured after participating in an 8-week course and practicing the required daily meditations and exercises (e.g. less activity in amygdala, the center for fear and anxiety).

Unlike many other mindfulness courses, the MBSR (and MBCT) program is subject to international scientific standards on quality of teaching.

Since the early eighties, an increasing amount of research on Mindfulness and its effectiveness has been conducted at universities around the world. In Denmark, a recent study at Bispebjerg Hospital showed that 91% of participants with work-related-stress were able to reduce stress, anxiety and depression after participating in an 8-week MBSR course. They also recovered from stress-related illness and returned to their jobs more quickly after participating in a 8-week MBSR course (https://www.bispebjerghospital.dk/afdelinger-og-klinikker/arbejds-og-miljoemedicinsk-afdeling/for-sundhedsfaglige/Sider/Behandlingstilbud-til-arbejdsrelateret-stress.aspx).

"I found this course massively helpful in my life. I had a very hard period and I am so glad and grateful to have meet you on my way"

“You created such a peaceful environment for us and made us all feel so welcome. I have definitely felt calmer and happier over the past few weeks which I think has been due to the influence of the meditations along with your kind words, insights and reassurances"

“Dorte's courses were amazing! It can be life-changing, definitely worth trying!

"I attended a 6 week course to get myself startet on a "mindfulness journey". It has helped with anxiety and stress levels and Dorte manages to guide you with her words to a better safer path, she helped me feel more positive and optimistic about myself and who I am and how to deal with life's daily pressure. She will give lots of tips and advise as well exercises to practice daily. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone who is struggling"

“I have really loved this course. Thank you for bringing this into my life”

“You were very good at facilitating our discussions and letting everyone speak without interruption and knowing when to "stay with" someone or particular feelings”

“I really enjoyed attending it and looked forward to each session. I liked the intimacy of our smaller group and to discuss things together as a group. I feel that I learned more about the other participants that way and it was really reassuring to find out that others had the same feelings as me in some areas ("in the same boat"), which I don't think I would have found out, or there wouldn't have been time to explore, if we had been a larger group”
